 World's Largest Ski and Snowboard Rental Network
Christy Sports, one of North America’s biggest ski and snowboard retailer has recently partnered up with Skiset, Europe’s largest rental network, to create the Christy Sports Rental Network. The integration of these two companies will finally allow skiers and snowboarders to rent high quality equipment at a low rate through their online reservation system. With more than 120 rental shop locations in the US and Canada and 800 worldwide, customers have convenient access to quality ski rental packages where they want to ski or snowboard.–G.W. |
 Backcountry Slayer John Jackson Makes Team Switch
The backcountry superstar and Snowboarder Magazine's two-time Rider of the Year, John Jackson, has recently switched from riding for Forum to Burton. Although the two companies are very similar in that they are essentially Burton, Jackson no longer rides with the same park shredders. He is now expanding his horizons in the backcountry where he ultimately dominates. When asked about his thoughts on the team switch, he believes that Burton will open many new windows of opportunity for him by doing exactly what he loves, “chasing snow and shredding”.

 Utah Claims Top Spots as Best Ski Resorts
UTAH – Utah ski resorts dominate as the country’s top resorts according to 2011 SKI Magazine’s reader survey. Deer Valley has been names the number one ski resort for the fifth year in a row followed closely by other ski and snowboard paradises such as Park City at number six and Canyons Resort at sixteen. The reason why Utah ski resorts are ranked amongst some of the best resorts in the country is their ability to “enhance [their] natural strengths”. Utah, having access to the “greatest snow on earth” makes them a strong competitor in the ski resort industry.

 Gretchen Bleiler and Louie Vito Pose Nude for ESPN Mag
ESPN- Gretchen Bleiler posed nude once again along with pro snowboarder Louie Vito. We've all seen the beautiful pro snowboarder Gretchen Bleiler pose nude in various magazines in the past, and now she has made it on the cover of ESPN's Body Issue magazine. Although she has posed nude for an ESPN cover in the past, this experience has been a very different one compared to her previous magazine shoots. In an interview with ESPN, Bleiler explains that she used to feel pressured to pose nude in the past and was portrayed in a way that she was not happy with.
However, this time was a very comfortable experience for her in that she feels like she is portraying exactly who she is: “badass and dangerous”. In her words, "I wanted to do the body issue because it's about power and strength.” Along with Bleiler, Olympic snowboarder Louie Vito also posed nude for the same issue of ESPN’s Body magazine which she was very happy about. That being said, she is very grateful to pose among some of the top athletes in the world in a setting that’s not about being “sexy” but how strong and powerful they are.

 Jake Burton Diagnosed With Cancer
September 26, 2011, Burlington, VT - Snowboard Industry Founder Jake Burton Carpenter, (pictured here with Hannah Teter and Shaun White in 2005 at the Burton World Tour New York Kick-Off Party) announced last week in a letter to his employees that he has been diagnosed with a treatable form of testicular cancer. He will undergo treatment for the next three months and we wish him a full recovery.

The Art of Flight Movie Premieres in New York City on September 7, 2011. We interview several of the athletes in a freestyle style at Paragon Sports in NYC on the day before. They haven't even seen the movie yet and don't know if they made it in or ended up with their footage on the cutting room floor.

 Quiksilver Showdown Over the City Snowboard Contest in Vancouver - $20,000 Purse!
The Quiksilver Showdown Over the City is s Grouse Mountain’s marquee snowboard event and one of Canada’s top snowboarding events, It returns to the Peak of Vancouver this weekend (March 25 and 26). The public is encouraged to come up and watch top international and local snowboard talent competing for $20K in cash and prizes. This year’s event has a 4-Star ranking as part of the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour, which is the premier event circuit in the world.
The weekend has Friday Qualifiers, Friday Night Jib Session, the Saturday Park Session, and many other festivities throughout the weekend.
